Proptech is rapidly changing the way people buy, rent, sell and manage properties where they work, live, and play. As a result, Proptech and security have become completely entangled. Access control isn’t just a physical security system anymore — it’s a foundation to create better tenant experiences, smarter buildings and healthier built environments. In the COVID era, health-safety concerns have driven companies to pivot their physical security plans to meet their residents’ and employees’ needs.
If you can’t measure (and manage) the flow of people in a space, you can’t measure (or manage) anything else related to your property. In this talk, I will discuss the increased investment in the Proptech industry — $23.5 billion in 2020 alone — and use Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to explain why access control security is truly foundational to Proptech.
- Proptech and security have become completely entangled. Access control isn’t just a security system anymore — it’s an experience differentiator for residents and property owners/managers/developers.
- Maslow's hierarchy of human needs theory is a good analogy for the relationship between security and Proptech.
- I will share 3 (sometimes 4) Proptech market segments that are directly related to the physical aspects of property management and security.
